Louis Jake Martin

Our little miracle is finally here.
I just wanted to write down a few details to let you know how it went. I went into labor around 1:00am Friday the 8th. My back hurt, but I could walk off the pain and didn't think I was in labor. They always say you will know, I didn't know. The contractions were coming about an hour apart for the first couple hours. At 3:30 I decided I had to wake Michael up and tell him how much pain I was in. We decided at 4 to call the doctor who told us to come into the hospital. I then called my mom who booked herself on a plane within the next half hour. By the time we finished packing and drove to the hospital it was 5:00 and I was 3-4 cm dialated. My contractions were starting to slow down and there was talk of pitocin. I was trying to hold off as long as I could before getting the epidural, but the thought of having stronger contractions scared me. Back labor sucks, but I had been managing the pain with Michael's help. Around 11:00 I got pitocin and an epidural (which I loved!). See how happy I am!
I was quickly dialating, but Jake was turned sunny side up, so I laid on my side hoping he would turn around. Ten minutes later he had and we were ready to push. At 2:35pm I started to push and Jake was born at 2:55pm!!! 20 mintues of pushing was awesome! Jake's heart rate had dipped down at one point and there was a little bit of concern. My nurse, Sue (who was the most incredible lady ever) thought that Jake had leaned on his umbilical cord or that it was wrapped around his arm or leg. Turns out it was in a knot! The doctor told me he would be lucky his whole life! Mike didn't get to cut that cord because of the knot, but he did get to cut it eventually.

My boys

Jake got 9's on his apgars and he came out sucking his fingers. Since then he hasn't done it as much, but it could be because Grammie keeps him swaddled! He was 7lb 6oz and 19 1/2 inches long. He has a small birthmark on his left thigh, lots of blond hair and blue eyes!

My mom was here two hours later and we left the hospital Saturday evening. My mom spent the week with us and we had the best time. She got up with me for every feed during the night and as I nursed we would sit and talk. Jake was up a lot those first few days! On Wednesday he was up from 1 to 8. I learned that he hated his bassinett so, on Thursday, I kept him in bed with me after I nursed him. We slept from 1 to 8. I hate when kids sleep with their parents, but feel that he is only 9 days old and he deserves to be warm and cuddled. It is only temporary!!!

I have so many great pictures that my mom took, but I will only put a few on. Thank you to everyone who has called or sent something, we truly appreciate all your blessings. I will continue to update the blog and put more adorable pictures up.

We feel so blessed and can't wait for you all to meet our new love...
